• Educational
Our group recommends that the social worker follows up and checks in with Vincent’s special education teacher to ensure that he has adequate support and resources at school and to regularly check in for his progress and ensure his basic needs are being met.
• Mental health or clinical treatment
Our group recommends that Vincent’s mom, Andrea be referred to and seen by a psychiatrist and mental health professional to be properly screened for any present mental health conditions, possibly be prescribed appropriate medications, and receive therapy.
• Social support
Our group recommends referring both Andrea and John to parent support groups (e.g., parent group for children with autism, substance use support group, general parenting support group).
• Immediate safety
Our group recommends that taking Vincent out of an unsafe environment would be best for him, it would be ideal to place him with the closest and safest family member available. For Andrea, it would be best for her to be admitted into a facility until her mental health is regulated if signs show that she needs the help.
• Physical health
Our group recommends that both Andrea and Vincent have regularly scheduled doctor visits in order to assess any health concerns or watch out for any signs of abuse in the future.
• Safety
Our group recommends all visits continue to be supervised as the Judge has ordered. We also recommend the worker proceed to look into other relatives that may be safer guardians for Vincent while Andrea gets treated for any potential substance use disorders or any other mental health.
• Substance abuse
Our Group recommends that Andrea be assessed for any substance use disorders and reassess her prescription to zoloft.
